Outreach

OLG Christmas Outreach Begins!

We can’t let the Pandemic dampen our Christmas Spirit – This is the year to rise to the challenge with even more resolve!

St. Benedict’s, St. Cecilia’s, Assisi House, Marian House, Franciscan Center and North Cluster Food Bank are counting on us!

To keep our parishioners, outreach members and charity recipients safe this season, we are offering three new ways to participate in this annual project.  We hope at least one of them is a comfortable option and appeals to your family.  We encourage online shopping, and the same generous giving you have shown in years past. Due to current restrictions, all gifts must be brought to OLG on December 5th and 6th ONLY. We will be collecting gifts outside Grace Hall.

Three Ways to Give Gifts

  1. Donate Money through an account on org. Click on ‘Find Your Charity’ and enter 21120. Select OLG and then the option titled “Christmas Outreach” and enter the amount you would like to contribute as a one-time donation. Outreach members will use the wish lists we have from our recipient organizations to make purchases and wrap the gifts for you.  If you do not want to use Give Central, checks may be sent directly to OLG, with “Christmas Outreach donation” in the memo. Deadline for monetary donations: November 15, 2020

  1. Sign-Up Genius.com allows you to select and purchase a specific gift.

  • Secure a gift tag to it, clearly showing if it is for a Boy or Girl and the Size.
  • Bring your gift to the HALL at Our Lady of Grace before or after Masses on December 5th and 6th.

  1. Purchase Listed Generic Item(s) from the following list for Adult Men or Women.

COVID-19 update and ways to help during this time

My Neighbors Foundation has partnered with both local food banks to help not only the students on Free Lunch but also any family that has lost their job or wages.  Both My Neighbors Foundation and the Food Banks will need help in the future as well because this is going to be a long period of time that they will be supplying food to more of our community.  Food bank locations, hours of operation, and items needed can be found here: Hereford Food BankPine Grove Food Bank (North County Cluster Food bank), Food for Hereford kids.

Thank you for your continued support in serving those in need.

Outreach Ministry

Outreach Ministry’s mission is to “see ourselves heralds of God’s love and to serve those in need. Worship and service are at the heart of the mission.”

The ministry fulfills its mission by organizing events to help collect and distribute food, clothing, school supplies, holiday gifts and limited financial contributions to assist those in immediate need.

Members donate time to the activities of the Outreach Ministry to the best of their ability and schedule. We hold a membership meeting 2 or 3 times a YEAR, sort/deliver for three collections a year, encourage others to participate in giving to the special collections, i.e. Pregnancy Center in February, Veterans in May/June, and oversee the collection/delivery of casseroles for Our Daily Bread.

New members welcome!

Outreach Reaches Out

Our Daily Bread – 5th Sunday of the Month

Our Daily Bread (ODB) is a free food program sponsored by Catholic Charities. It has been providing daily, a hot nutritious lunch, 365 days a year, from 10:30am—12:30pm. ODB has never closed a day since it began in 1981. OLG supplies the casseroles, transportation and volunteers whenever there is a 5th Sunday in a month.

Prepare the easy “Zippy Beef” casserole (aluminum pan and recipe provided). Pans are distributed two weeks before the 5th Sunday. Casseroles are returned, FROZEN, on 5th Sunday of the month between the hours of 8:15am and 8:45am on the church parking lot

The delicious casseroles are easy to prepare then freeze. The minimum age to volunteer to serve is 14 years old and must be accompanied by an adult. Age 15 and up may come alone.

If you have any questions OR would like to volunteer to serve or drive, please contact Joann at joanncweb@gmail.com. Take the opportunity to involve your family, no matter their age, in the preparing the casserole or food shopping. Other items needed at ODB: commercial size canned vegetables or fruit, tea bags, sugar, family size macaroni and cheese, dish detergent, large cans of spaghetti sauce, large bags of rice and pasta, condiments, salad dressing, salt and pepper, peanut butter, jelly, fresh sandwich rolls or bagels, cookies, cooking spray, brown lunch bags, sandwich size zip lock bags, paper towels or toilet tissue.

OUTREACH REACHES OUT

‘OLG Food Drive weekend’ is the 3rd weekend of each month. The idea is to add one item to your usual donation. All nonperishable foods are greatly appreciated and if you need some suggestions, think breakfast and lunch: canned fruit, cereal, oatmeal, breakfast bars, peanut butter and jelly. We will continue to donate our collections to both the Hereford Food Bank and Pine Grove Food Bank.

Donation guidelines: Please check all donations for expiration dates and tampered packaging. Regardless of the monthly theme, any non-perishable food or hygiene items are always appreciated. Hygiene items such as baby diapers, shampoo, soap, disposable razors, laundry detergent are always in demand since these items cannot be purchased with food stamps.

Questions? Please contact Kate Hartig at katethartig@gmail.com.
